Broadland Through The Years
The final set of photographs from the Charles Hannaford Collection are displayed across the next two pages and document Broadland through the years. Dating is often very difficult with these, but they appear to span the late 1920s to the 1960s.
Another Horning photograph and another regatta I presume. ‘Vega’ is once again seen on the left with Hannaford’s launch ‘Brown Moth’ alongside.
Taken slightly further upstream at Horning, this is another 1930s photograph - note the wherry on the left, converted here for houseboat use, or possibly motorised.
Horning Regatta once again, capturing the Norfolk 14ft One Design race. Sail numbers visible include B39 (Jerry Pip), B35 (Jubilee), B3 (Swift), B6 (Lucifer), B15 (Wee Simby), and B25 (Amethyst). Introduced by Herbert Woods in 1931, the class was designed as a cheaper alternative to the 14ft International class.

This also appears to have been taken at Horning - is this possibly the boatyard of HC Banham picured during the 1920s/30s?

Captioned as “The Holiday of Wroxham on South Walsham Broad” and probably taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s. The ‘Holiday’ had a large cabin with four berths, and a fifth berth in the forepeak.
This looks as though it may also be ‘Holiday’ taken during the same trip, pictured here at Horning. A week’s hire during August 1929 would have cost £10.
Captioned as “RFYC Regatta 1930”, this shows Charles Hannaford’s motor cruiser ‘Vega’ pictured on the left at Horning. The Swan Hotel can be seen in the background.
Possibly taken during the same race seen in the first regatta photograph on this page.
This may be a slightly later regatta at Horning.
The caption on the reverse of this image, taken on Wroxham Broad, is difficult to decipher, but it looks like: “Dinghy Skipper winner July 1932 by Harold Wilkings.”
